HUTCHERSON CONSTRUCTION, INC. was founded on April 25, 1979, in Arlington, Texas, by Jim (Hutch) and Shirley Hutcherson, with their children joining the firm in 1982—J. Hutcherson, Jan Gibson in 1988, and Kellie Coffee in 1991.

Hutch came from a background in retail construction, both as an architect with Zales Jewelry and as a project manager for a large general contractor constructing shopping malls. Naturally, in the early years, our corporate client base was rooted in the retail sector, with commercial construction projects for 7-Eleven, Stop–N–Go, McDonald's, Jack in the Box, Dobbs House, and Walmart. These retail projects played a significant role in the success of our first two decades of operation.

However, the clients that made the largest long-term impact on our firm—and continue to do so today—were SWB / AT&T, beginning in 1982, and General Telephone (now Verizon), beginning in 1984. Our firm has completed over 850 telecom construction projects for these telecommunications firms, with the majority of the work performed in operational facilities. These high-tech projects demand strict dust containment, coordination with complex MEP systems, and close collaboration with the client to ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical telecom services.

After nearly two decades in the telecom sector, it became clear that healthcare construction had many similarities. In the early 1990s, we began marketing our services to the medical industry.

Over the last four decades, our firm has continued to support the telecom industry through ongoing work with Verizon. For the past two decades, we’ve also built strong relationships in the medical construction sector, completing projects for Methodist Health Systems, Texas Health Resources, Kindred Healthcare, HCA Healthcare, JPS Healthcare, Baylor Surgical, and many more.

In addition to this core work that takes us across the state of Texas, Hutcherson Construction has become a go-to commercial contractor in Arlington, completing projects for many local non-profit agencies, the City of Arlington, the Arlington Independent School District, and the Texas Rangers.

Thanks to our commitment to honest and ethical treatment of all parties involved, Hutcherson Construction, Inc. proudly enters its third generation of operation under the leadership of Reid Hutcherson, continuing to build toward our 50th year of service.
